Quickstart

Send your first event to Datius in a few minutes: create a workspace, define a signal, generate an API key, and ingest one event.

1. Create a workspace

Sign in and, from the dashboard, create an organization (or use your personal one) and a workspace inside it. Every signal, API key, and piece of telemetry belongs to exactly one workspace — see Core Concepts for how organizations and workspaces relate.

2. Define a signal

From the workspace's Signals page, create a signal with a key (the machine name you'll reference from ingestion calls), a display name, and a data type (counter, gauge, currency, percentage, or duration). Optionally add a tag schema to require structured metadata on every event — see Signal Schemas & Tags.

3. Generate an API key

From the workspace's API Keys page, create a key with the signals:emit scope. The plaintext key is shown once — copy it immediately, it can't be retrieved again. See Authentication for scopes and rotation.

4. Send your first event

POST to /api/v1/ingest with your API key in an X-API-Key header:

Shell
curl -X POST https://<your-api-host>/api/v1/ingest \
-H "X-API-Key: <your-api-key>" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{
"signalKey": "order_completed",
"value": 149.99,
"tags": { "currency": "USD", "customerTier": "gold" }
}'

A successful response returns { "accepted": 1 }. The event is validated against the signal's tag schema, queued, and appears in Live Telemetry within seconds.

5. Explore your data

Head to the workspace Dashboard to see the event reflected in scorecards and charts, or the Reports page to query it directly. From here, most teams either wire the Ingestion API directly into a backend service or use the @datius/node SDK for automatic batching and retries.
