Reports & analysis
Reports shows one signal over any period, and Analysis explains what moved it. To get the same numbers from your own code, see Reading data.
Reports
Pick a signal, then:
- Range: a preset such as the past 30 days or year to date, or your own start and end.
- Granularity: one point per hour, day, week or month, in your own timezone.
- Aggregation: how each point combines its events: sum, count, average, minimum, maximum, or the 95th or 99th percentile. Counters and currency are usually summed; numbers, percentages and durations averaged.
- Group by: split the chart by a tag, showing its top values with the rest as Other, with a breakdown table below.
The filter bar narrows the report to specific tag values, and the report can be downloaded as CSV.
Email sends the report to people in the workspace: its summary, the chart and, when it's grouped, the breakdown table (up to 50 rows), with a link to open the same report in Datius. It works like emailing a dashboard.
Analysis
Analysis compares a period with another and ranks, for each tag, the values that account for the difference. For example: "Refunds increased 34% compared to the prior period. Most of it came from Store 4 (71% of the change)." Datius does the arithmetic, so the same question always gives the same answer.
Open it from:
- Reports: click a point or drag across a range on the chart, then Analyze. You get what happened across your selection (its end against its start) and the selection compared with another period.
- Dashboards: the Analyze button on a widget, or a scorecard's change.
- Alerts: an alert's details link explains the hour before it fired.
Compared to
Choose what the period is compared with:
- Prior period (the default): the same length of time just before.
- Same day last week: for a day or part of one, the same hours a week earlier, so a Sunday is compared with a Sunday.
- Same period last year.
- Quick presets: yesterday, or the last 7, 14 or 30 days.
- Calendar periods: this month, quarter or year to date, or last month, quarter or year.
- Custom date range.
Options are measured back from the period you're analyzing, not from today, and any overlap is left out. When the two differ in length, totals are compared per day. A period still in progress, such as today, is compared over the same elapsed time.
Reading the results
- Each value shows its own change (for example, down 53%), its share of the change (its part of all the movement in its tag; shares add up to 100%), and its share of events before and now.
- A value stands out when it didn't move in line with its size: it drove more of the change than its size suggests, decreased while the signal increased overall (or the reverse), or changed much less than the signal overall. Analysis names it and marks it in the list.
- By hour (for a day or two) or By day (up to two months) splits the change across the period, in your time, so you can see which part of it the change was in. It appears when the comparison is the same length, so each hour or day has one to match.
- When every value moved in line with its size, Analysis says so. Their bars still differ, because a bigger value moves more in dollars or events; their own changes are what match.
- For averages (numbers, percentages, durations), Analysis says whether a value itself changed or there is simply more or less of it.
- Tags marked Exclude from analysis on the signal, such as order IDs, are skipped.
- When there isn't enough data, it says so and offers comparisons that fit.
Analysis is included on some plans; the pricing page shows which.
