DATIUSDocs

AI chat

Ask Datius answers questions in plain words, about a workspace's data ("Why did refunds go up yesterday?", "Which store sold the most last week?") or about using Datius ("How do I create an alert?"). Open it with Ask in the top bar, from any page.

Turning it on

Chat is included on some plans (the pricing page shows which). It's off until an organization admin turns it on in Settings > AI Features, which shows who answers the questions and what is sent. Each plan includes a number of questions a month, shown under Plan & Usage.

Tell it about your business

A workspace owner can describe the business in Settings > Workspace > General, under Business Context for Ask Datius, in up to 2,000 characters. The assistant reads it in every conversation in that workspace, so it can answer questions like "was that a good day?" or "how is the airport store doing?" in your terms. What helps:

  • what you sell and to whom;
  • what your stores, regions or channels are;
  • opening hours, busy seasons and your fiscal calendar;
  • targets, such as what a good day looks like;
  • your team's own terms.

Everyone in the workspace can read it there. It's background for the assistant, not instructions: it can't change what the assistant does. Leave out passwords and customers' personal details.

How answers are built

The assistant answers by running the same queries as Reports and Analysis against your data, and quotes their numbers rather than estimating. While it works, it says what it's doing, such as "Looking up Gross Revenue". Under each answer:

  • Charts from the queries it ran.
  • Open in Reports opens its main query in Reports, and Add to dashboard opens a new dashboard widget showing it, on the landing dashboard or another you pick (for workspace owners and editors).
  • How this was worked out lists each query, with links to see it in Reports or Live Telemetry.
  • Follow-up questions you can click to ask next.

It can also answer questions about using Datius from these docs, and links the section it used.

What it can and can't do

Chat reads and suggests; it never changes anything. When an alert would help, it offers a Set up alert button that opens the alert form filled in. When you want to track something that isn't a signal yet, it offers a Create signal button that opens the New signal form filled in. When you ask for a calculation across signals, like revenue per order, it answers with your derived signals, or offers a Save derived signal button for one that isn't saved yet. Nothing is saved unless you save it. It sees only the workspace you're in, with your own permissions.

Answers can be wrong. Check important numbers using the links under each answer.

Conversations

Conversations are private to you. Find past ones with the history button at the top of the panel, where you can rename or delete them. Each is deleted automatically 90 days after its last message. The pin button keeps the panel open beside the page while you work.

What's sent and kept

To answer, the assistant's provider receives your question, the workspace's business context, the names and descriptions of your signals and tags, and the aggregated results of the queries it runs (totals, averages and breakdowns by tag, and a few example events when asked for them). API keys, passwords and settings are never sent.
